Welcome Students to 10th Grade Literature

Hello, my name is Lizhayra Nieves Feliciano, I am currently a student at the University of Puerto Rico, Aguadilla Campus. I am in the English Department, finishing my BA in Secondary Education, in hopes of becoming an English teacher.

This page was created as a requirement for the course TEED 4020. The assignment was to create a module of an online class. For this assignment I chose the Elements of a Short story as the topic I wanted to give my future students. After the students complete the lesson, they will be able to identify correctly all the elements of a short story, students will be able to identify their favorite genres and reading material, and students will be able to apply the concepts learned in class to several short stories. The skills covered in this module are identifying elements of a short story, applying those elements to given stories and reading comprehension.As part of my class I incorporated several activities such as: a scavenger hunt, to get to know my students, an introduction to my topic, interactive game of questions, reading activities, creation of a PowerPoint presentation, and a final test. I used several programs to create my lesson such as: PowerPoint, Prezi, Word, Hot Potatoes, You Tube and online source .


Getting to know my students!!!

Before I begin with the lesson, I think it is very important to get to know my students, because all students are different. I would like to know what type of books you like to read, which authors are your favorites, what movies you like to watch, if you enjoy reading, and many other random details that may come in handy when preparing the class. I prepared a Multimedia Scavenger Hunt for this purpose, you will have to go online and find the photo and the url of all the things listed! When finished send it with your names to my e-mail! (50 pnts)


Introduction to topic: Elements of a Short Story

Before beginning with an introduction to the class topic I want to know how much you know. You will have to take a Pre-Test I prepared for you. This is for me to know if you know about the topic I will introduce. Complete the assignment and send it to my e-mail with your name. This pre-test will count as part of your grade, so it is important for you to turn it in. (50pnts) Good LUCK!!!

This is your final grade for the class. The test consists of two parts: a matching exercise about the characters of the story "The Lottery" and multiple choice questions. For the matching exercise you will have 20 minutes to finish the exercise and for the multiple choice you will have 15 minutes to complete the task. GOOD LUCK!!!!!! (100 pnts)
